If reverse osmosis equipment is out of service for a long time (more than 30 days), adding 1% sodium bisulfite solution can prevent bacterial growth. This is because, during long periods of outage, bacteria may multiply on the membrane surface, causing damage to the membrane elements. By adding sodium bisulfite solution, bacterial reproduction can be effectively inhibited and the membrane elements can be protected from damage.
